Painted by Clyde Caldwell in 1988, 'Spellfire' (also known as 'Dracolich') originally served as the iconic cover art for Ed Greenwood's TSR fantasy novel Spellfire, the debut entry of the Shandril's Saga series set in the Forgotten Realms, and was later featured on the cover of the AD&D accessory Cult of the Dragon (1998). The scene depicts the young spellfire wielder Shandril Shessair blasting raw magical energy directly into the chest of the undead dracolich Rauglothgor within a cavernous treasure hoard, while her armored companion Narm Tamaraith, the legendary archmage Elminster Aumar, and other party members look on in awe.
