Painted in acrylic on board by Clyde Caldwell in 1979, Saucer Hill was created as the front cover illustration for the Avon Books science-fiction novel of the same name by Paul Adler (a pen name of Peter Edler). Blending UFO contactee lore with religious and messianic themes, the composition depicts a golden-skinned extraterrestrial savior descending via a rainbow-hued tractor beam beneath an alien spacecraft, flanked by a star-studded halo. Below this cosmic figure are the floating portraits of the protagonist, Anton Alfons, and his abducted lover, Bianca, set against a dark, mountainous backdrop. Caldwell's interlocking 'CC' monogram is signed just above Anton's portrait, marking this as an early freelance work prior to his renowned tenure at TSR.
