Painted by Clyde Caldwell in 1982, 'A Fighting Man of Mars' was commissioned as an interior illustration for Heavy Metal magazine (September 1982 issue) to accompany Richard A. Lupoff's retrospective article 'Barsoom!'. Serving as the seventh piece in Caldwell's 10-painting series illustrating Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom novels, the acrylic artwork portrays the protagonist Tan Hadron of Hastor stranded on foot in the perilous Toonolian Marshes, brandishing his Martian blade as he confronts native predatory beasts—a giant flying sith hornet above and a vicious reptilian marsh creature below.

Professionally restored and reproduced from the original artwork, this print preserves the powerful visual impact of Clyde Caldwell's painting while offering exceptional detail and color fidelity for modern display. • Premium 200 g/m² matte paper • Exceptional detail and color reproduction • Professionally enhanced and restored image quality • Available in 12x18", 16x24", and 24x36" sizes • Unframed for custom display options • Printed in the USA
